About “Dr. Ahmed Mostafa”

Consultant Thoracic Surgery

Professor Dr. Ahmed Mostafa is a distinguished Consultant Thoracic Surgeon and Professor of Thoracic Surgery at Ain Shams University, Cairo, with more than two decades of experience in advanced cardiothoracic and airway reconstruction surgery. He received his training in France—at leading institutions such as Georges Pompidou, Tenon, and Henri Mondor Hospitals—and pursued further specialization in Japan at Kyoto University at Professor Hiroshi Date’s Department, mastering living-donor lung transplantation and complex thoracic oncology. He serves as the main consultant of thoracic surgery at Professor Magdy Yacoub’s Aswan Heart Centre. His international education and pioneering contributions have established him as one of the foremost experts in thoracic surgery across the Middle East.

As the former Head of the Lung Transplant Unit at Ain Shams University, Dr. Mostafa directed the development of Egypt’s first Living-Donor Lung Transplant Program, in collaboration with Kyoto University, marking a milestone for transplantation medicine in Africa. He has performed over 700 major tracheal and airway reconstructive surgeries—the largest single-surgeon series in the Arab world—and introduced innovative surgical modifications that have shaped regional practice. His expertise spans airway reconstruction, VATS and thoracoscopic procedures, ECMO-assisted interventions, thoracic oncology, and advanced chest-wall and mediastinal surgery.

Currently in Dubai, Professor Mostafa serves as a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at Saudi German Hospital, continuing his dual academic and clinical leadership between the UAE and Egypt. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (London), a member of the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and an educator committed to training the next generation of surgeons. Through his academic work, global collaborations, and patient-centered innovations, Dr. Mostafa continues to bridge continents in pursuit of excellence in thoracic surgery.
